Semester Update

So I guess this is turning into a let's update once a semester. Time just seems to fly by. The fall semester of my last year of college has come to an end. What a semester it has been. This was my first Madrigal Dinner that I just watched, and it was an amazing experience. If I'm still in Austin next semester, I hope to direct the show which would be a great experience. My first two years I acted, my third year I produced and sang in the choir, and this year I helped out in any way I could without being involved in the show. It has been truly a wonderful ride, and I would love to be able to actually direct the show next year in a non-student capacity. As for SEC President, it has been an experience so far. We've had a great semester with several sneak peaks of movies, concerts, speakers, Madrigal, and several other events. I can't wait for the spring semester to see what else comes to the University through this organization. I've learned a lot and really feel that I've grown so much through the challenges that came with this position. However, now it is Christmas time, and it is great to have the break.

Though it was about time for one of my random and scarce updates. Things are going great in Austin. I'm starting my year as president of the student events center. The student events center is the organization that includes Madrigal Dinner as one of its 10 committees. At first, it was weird for me because I thought this upcoming year I would not be involved in Madrigal because of the time constraints of the new position. But I'm very happy to say that after looking over my schedule, I will have time. However, I've always been interested in just watching the show, so instead of acting, I will be serving as the assistant director of the show for my senior year. I'm very excited about the experience.

In other news, this summer I get the opportunity to act again. I'm very excited. There is a festival called the artspark festival. And one of the competitions is a theatre showcase. There are 6 teams who each have twelve weeks to write a script inspired by a provided peace of art, cast the show, and perform it. Our team consisting of the director and two writers have down a great job, and I'm really excited about being in it. The show opens tomorrow.

Things are going really great. I'm winding down the year as Chair of the Madrigal Dinner Committee in the Texas Union Student Events Center, and I couldn't be more excited about what the committee accomplished this year. The best Madrigal Dinner ever, a great spring line up, and a wonderful and dedicated committee. Currently I'm running for the position of Student Events Center President, and I couldn't be happier. I hope things are going well for everyone.

This is late, but I wanted to update. Well Madrigal Dinner ended December 2nd. It was a great run, and I couldn't be more proud of the cast, choir, and crew. They all did a fantastic job, and I couldn't be happier with the experience I got producing the event this year. I've gotten so many comments about this being the best madrigal they've seen and we made front page in the daily texan after opening night. The madrigal dinner committee and the student events center has been such a blessing in my life. And I really can't think of what my college experience would be without it.

It's been a tough but very rewarding semester and I feel that I have grown a great deal.
Now to get through my last 2 finals.

Till next time

I know I rarely post on this anymore, but I've been swamped. But I thought it was time for a quick update...

1) Madrigal Dinner is going great. Producing a $50,000 show is definitly not something I thought would be doing in college, but it is an experience I will always remember. Since I'm producing it, I can't act because of a conflict of interest since I help pick the director and there are fewer parts. But I'm having a lot of fun in the choir. For anyone interested, tickets are still on sale for Madrigal at texasboxoffice.com or at the Frank Erwin Center and Bass Concert Hall.

2) For Halloween, I went dressed as Hagrid. I was really happy with the costume. There are pictures on facebook.

Wow ,that's a short update. Madrigal is really taking up my whole life right now. I can't wait for the show to open

Well just on update on my producing endeavors. Auditions are over for Madrigal Dinner, and it went very well. We got a lot of new people involved and I'm very excited. I'm sad I couldn't act, but since I pick the director and acting roles are very competitive to get, I have a conflict of interest. I've acted in the show for two years now, so it'll be weird not to. But I did audition for the madrigal choir, since there a lot more parts, and I made it. So I'll be singing in the choir.

So this producer thing for madrigal is getting pretty hard for me. I just don't feel that I'm the right person for the job. I'm sure everybody knows that I really get upset when people get mad at me and I try to make everyone happy because when I people are mad, i don't know, it really gets to me. Well I learned very early in this job that I can't make everyone happy, and its really hard. I'm trying so hard to seperate the producer me from the friend me, but I find that almost impossible.

On the upside, I had a readthrough for my play, and I'm very excited about it.

So it's been a very relaxing summer which I'm so thankful for. With the spring semester, I had it was great to have some time to just do what I wanted to do. Some updates

1)Got to go up to Austin for the week, which was awesome. I was interviewing some candidates for the advisor position in the Student Events Center of which Madrigal Dinner is a part of. That week was a lot of fun.

2)It seems I have everything ready to get Madrigal started in the fall. I'm a little nervous about producing the show. I'm a little sad about not acting in it since I'm producing, but it should be a great experience. Plus I want to go into event planning so this is a great start.

3)Best of all, I have 4 more days till I move into my first apartment. I'm so glad to be out of the dorms. It's a great place and I can't wait to move in. Plus I'll be in Austin, which is a plus in itself. I can't wait to get back.

Things to Do when I get Back
1) Get a Job
2) Get a Job
3) Get a Job

As you can see I'll be focusing on getting a job.

So I found out yesterday at noon, that officially next year I will by the chair of the Madrigal Dnner Committee. I had my interview at 6:00 pm on Wednesday and it was something else. We're interviewed by a present chair from another committee, our advisor for the committee, and three committee members. So I walk in and they all decide to glare at me and after an awkward pause, they all break out laughing saying, "We tried." After the interview was over, I was outside the office, and they took about 20-25 minutes to talk after the interview, it had to be a unanimous vote. They came out of the office and said okay results for the chairs will be posted tomorrow at noon. I came to the union the next day to check the postings and had gotten it. I was very excited. Turns out they actually had me picked within a couple minutes and the wanted to freak me out. Mission Accomplished, I love madrigal people. So now I'm chair next year and I'm very excited. The film chair and I have a lot of ideas and next year will be a great year.

In other news about Madrigal
Our Aladdin Sing-Along was a huge success and the show I'm helping to co-head Madrigal Night Live, our first sketch comedy show mixing medieval and modern is going up in about 3 weeks.

***Now to just survive my classes***

Back in Austin

Well I got back to Austin on Saturday. I must say that I am having a blast. My RA this year is awesome. She's really laid back and nice. She's already taken us to a couple parties and the hall is a lot better then last year. I must say I'm enjoying Jester First Floor this year a lot more. I started my training to be a TIP Mentor today and it was fun. It was a lot of those team building activities. We split into four teams and dominated ,but dominating probably wasn't the point. It was really cool to see all the mentors I had known last year and to now be a part of that group. Classes don't start till Wednesday so I still have a couple more days of relaxation, I just wish I didn't have to wake up at 7:15 am tomorrow or actually today to go to the next training session, but it should be fun. That's pretty much all that going on now.

It's been a while since I actually updated this thing. Well I've got only a couple more weeks at AMC and I'm free from the worst job ever. Except the free movies, I'm really going to miss those. I think I can honestly say that I've probably taken the most advantage of those perks then anyone that works there. But I can't prove that. But I'm sure I'm pretty close. I can't wait to be done with summer school, it's so boring. But now I don't have to take gov't at UT. That's pretty much been my summer: work, school, and movies; with a some other fun stuff mixed in there + one accident that wasn't so fun.
